My Love for Animals
After my last couple of posts being heavy I wanted to write about something a little different. I am happy I received some feedback on my writing. I shared my page with a couple friends and a moms group I apart of. Getting such positive feels really good after putting myself out there.
So my love for animals and my history with them. In my previous post I wrote about my father’s business and how he care more for animals than people. I like to think my parents bonded over that and it’s something I got from both of them.
With my father having a wildlife company it would not be unusual for him to bring home a liter of baby raccoons or squirrels. When a mother knows humans were near the babies they leave them. So what my dad did was bring them home, we cared for them and he would have contacts to release them to the wild.
Growing up I took care of plenty of raccoons and squirrels. My moms water broke with me while she was feeding a liter of raccoons. I know risky, but she loved animals so much and actually enjoyed caring for them. My husband and I share a love for raccoons and it’s funny how I can actually say I raised some. In 3rd grade I brought a squirrel to a classmates birthday party, she still reminds me of that.
My mom worked at a kennel, that I secretly think was a front for money laundering. But I spent a lot of time there and when I was 6 I adopted lucky, a gray cat that became family. He died when I was about 23. We had so many animals when I was growing because my mom couldn’t say no to trying to find them a home. She found a ferret walking to her car one morning, she came home with her and we named her sleepy.
My dad obviously loved all animals but his true love was homing pigeons. He was in a club and did pigeon racing. His birds were his babies, they had imported foods and only the best. They got more love than his own daughter. It’s an expensive hobby and it was his passion. I met some cool old guys and loved watching the birds train. It really is interesting how they learn to go home.
So that’s a little bit of why I love animals. I now only have an angry cat named diesel that only likes me. She is black and white, has long fur and is shaved like a lion. I have had her since she was only a few weeks old. Like I said, I wanted to write a lighter post after sharing so much.
